José F. Batista was born and raised in South Providence, Rhode Island. After graduating from Providence public schools, José earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Bryant University in Smithfield, RI and his law degree from Roger Williams University School of Law in Bristol, RI.
After externing for judges in both Rhode Island state and federal courts, José began his legal career with the Committee for Public Counsel Services (CPCS) in Fall River, Massachusetts.
Most recently, José served as an assistant public defender for the RI Public Defender where he gained valuable trial and pre-trial experience defending indigent clients from over a dozen different cities across every county (Providence, Kent, Washington and Newport) in Rhode Island.
In addition to legal experience, José brings years of community experience to his practice. His main goal is to help his clients find a resolution to any challenge. He has served on various local boards and commissions including the Providence Charter Review Commission, College Visions, the Rhode Island Latino Civic Fund and the Classical High School Alumni Association.
